ever play the game Dead Space 2 ? I love this game :-). However, I believe that Dead Space 2 marketing team is screwed up royal with a marketing campaign, which I feel misses its target audience by a wide margin.
Humor
the newest marketing gimmick for this game is simple, identify which parts of the game hate the parents, especially mothers, but the hard core gamers love. These attributes are, of course, violence, death, explosions and disfigured aliens. Is this marketing demographic for misjudging their own game? Are not most people to play above the age of 17 and therefore may no longer live with their parents 24 / 7? Who cares if the mother hates the game you're playing at the age of 25 when you live alone?
depth
For those people who were not lucky enough to play this exciting Deep Space saga, or are disgusted with the graphic nature of this, they are missing the big story. The characters are rich and story driven, with some great dialogue and hilarious one line of different characters. The atmosphere is almost like another character, with amazing lighting and terribly dull art among the machines that feels like it will turn off any second. For those who choose to travel down narrow hallways and bloody residences that populate the zone in the game, they are one hell of a great ride. One has to wonder, not a marketing team to make a good enough job of informing the public about exactly what awaits them in this sequel?
Unique Game Play
the whole idea behind the unified combat system used here is to create a world where the head shot is no longer king of body shots and basically do nothing. Your opponent's limbs are the real aim and shoot their head only makes them angry. This revolutionary gameplay creates an environment in which careful aim and intelligent tactics are your only hope, given the fact that the enemies are faster and often more powerful than they are, especially on the harder levels of play. Dead Space 2 marketing do not really focus on the anatomy of your enemy as a focal point in the game, however. For all you know it's just another horror first person shooter.
Re-playability
the most difficult aspect of any game is worth playing it a second time through, even if you know the end or termination. Without creating a series of multiple sequels as well as most games that claim to be re-playability, Dead Space 2 created a system of rewards and suits that make solving the harder levels the game more bearable their second, third, X over time. Once again, marketing falls short is probably the best feature of them all about this game.
Ok, my list is getting kind of long and my main point is made. Now, it's your turn, is Dead Space 2 nail their marketing or fail miserably. The numbers seem to say that is great, but they did well for the success of the original Dead Space? Back when Dead Space 1 was launched, there were months of viral videos, comics, and even short films released before hand. Are Dead Space 2 miss even more sales because they are your mom hates us, "Love on the demographic that probably does not play the game all that much due to its mature rating? How would you market Dead Space 2, if you had the chance?
