If you're hanging around in search engine optimization industry (aka SEO industry) very long, you've probably heard the debate on ethical SEO tactics. Or, as is often put, white hat tactics in relation to black hat tactics.
What exactly makes a search engine optimization tactics, ethical or unethical? According to the dictionary, is an ethical practice in accordance with accepted standards of social or professional behavior. "For search engine optimization, I believe that we should get at least some of the "accepted standards" from the search engines themselves.
Some SEO experts to put a search engine search engine optimizers do not want to do there, so if you ask a search engine, all search engine optimization is unethical. That's not true, though. Google says that "many SEO provide useful services for website owners ... However, a few unethical SEO industry is given a black eye ."
Well ... what constitutes unethical SEO? Once again, Google has an opinion on the topic: "Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings ... A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you .."
may be a better way to put it would be this: You've gotten a phone call from Sam, who is Google's search results quality enforcement officer. He said: "John, I see that you are ranked # 1 on the keyword XYZ want to be sure that you had this in an ethical manner Which method you use ..?" If you feel comfortable to tell Google how you got the top list, then you're probably okay.
Of course, these are only general guidelines. Read the Google and Yahoo Webmaster Guidelines. You will find many specifics. You'll also find that the golden rule of ethical search engine optimization is: "Do not do anything to trick the search engines, or to represent your web site to search engines differently than you do your human visitors ."
